ASHGABAT, Sept 16 (KUNA) -- The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) on Wednesday re-elected Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as president of the OCA for the 2015-2019 term, during the 34th OCA General Assembly session in the Turkmenistan capital, Ashgabat.
Sheikh Ahmad, while addressing the OCA assembly which featured 45 Asian delegations, expressed his gratification for retaining the prestigious post. "I would like to thank the OCA for their continued trust in me and their confidence in my abilities to make sure that all Asian athletes' aspirations are realized," Sheikh Ahmad said.
Sheikh Ahmad extolled the success of Asian athletes in international events, underscoring the solidarity amongst Asian athletes which is a primary factor behind their continued success.
As he commences a new term as president of OCA, his seventh, Sheikh Ahmad pledged to embrace new technological means to further his quest of supporting youth athletics while broadening communication modes with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other international sports federations.
Meanwhile, five OCA Vice Presidents were re-elected to new terms while several new officials ascended to new positions. Among the new appointees are Japanese Olympic Games hammer champion Koji Morofushi, who was elected as Chairman of the Athletes' Committee.
Moreover, it was also announced during the OCA assembly session that the Chinese city of Hangzhou would be the host of the 2022 Asian Games.
The OCA, a sporting body which controls all sports in Asia is one of five continental associations recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Formed in 1982 and with permanent headquarters in Kuwait, the OCA strives to develop sport, culture and education of Asian youth. (end) fs.nam
