Attack on security check post kills 7 policemen in S. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, Sept 3 (KUNA) -- At least seven policemen were killed in an attack by Taliban rebels in Pakistan's southern Helmand province on Thursday, said officials.
District police chief, Timor Shah Nazari told media that the Taliban stormed a security checkpoint in Bertaka area of Garmser district in Helmand.
He said seven policemen, including check post commander Khasa Gul, were killed after being poisoned. He confirmed that the rebels took away two police vehicles, including Gul's personal car.
The attack on the check post came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the appointment of new Taliban chief last month. (end) sbk.ibi
