KUWAIT, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah on Monday received visiting UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien.
O'Brien is in Kuwait to take part in the fifth meeting of the major donors for supporting the humanitarian situation in Syria on Tuesday.
Al-Jarallah and O'Brien discussed the tragic humanitarian conditions in Syria and Yemen and the relevant UN efforts.
The senior UN official appreciated Kuwait's efforts providing urgent aid to the two countries and Iraq. He stressed the country's leading humanitarian role on the regional and the international levels.
O'Brien also reviewed the UN arrangements for the first World Humanitarian Summit Turkey will host in 2016.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) and Amiri Diwan Advisor Dr. Abdullah Al-Maatouq, who is also UN Secretary General Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs, and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Nasser Al-Heen.
