KUWAIT, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- Representative of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh has reaffirmed the government's commitment to caring for the youth.
Kuwait pays great attention to youth and the nation's development plans comprises plenty of projects, programs and activities that concern them, Al-Sabeeh on Sunday told the "Decision 2015" conference organized by 'Engineers Without Borders' (EWB).
The event is dubbed "Towards Better Future For Work at Public and Private Sectors." Caring for the Kuwaiti youth and empowering them is integral to the goals and policies of the state's development plans, for encouraging them, broadening the scale of their social role and protecting them against drugs and behavior deviance, the minister told the three-day gathering.
The plans also focus on promoting the role of sports in the society through developing facilities, picking out talented young people and making the best investment of their energy and spare time.
For the minister, the significance of the conference lies in the fact that it tackles topics that concern various categories of the Kuwait society, since each family has one or more of its members working in any of the two sectors, or even awaiting an opportunity.
She stressed in that respect the state's eagerness on issues like employment and supporting national labor in the private sector. Due attention is also paid to small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
In addition, the EWB conference aims to promote the culture of working in the public and the private sectors.
For his part, keynote speaker Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, emphasized the momentousness of the conference which embodies directives by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, namely to offer youth all possible support and care, since they will bear responsibility of the country's future.
The government truly believes in the role of the young people and the private sector as an effective partner in development that proivdes fresh job opportunities for the youth, he told the conference.
Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah noted that Kuwait is in need for developing a social culture to change the concept of working for the public and the private sectors. It also needs young people interacting effectively with the government convictions "to work together and realize what we aspire for." The conference is rich with its events and activities that seek to help youth in the field of human development, EWB chairperson and head of the organizing committee Zeinab Al-Qurashi told the opening session.
Al-Qurashi pointed to several projects the state is carrying out in support of the youth. (end) mz.msa
