Virginia teen sentenced to 11 years for supporting ISIL

WASHINGTON, Aug 28 (KUNA) -- Ali Shukri Amin, 17, of Virginia was sentenced to 136 months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised monitoring of internet activities for conspiring to provide support to the so-called Islamic state in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL,) a designated foreign terrorist group by the US.
"Ali Shukri Amin is a young American who used social media to provide material support to ISIL," said Assistant Attorney General Carlin.
In June Amin pleaded guilty to using Twitter to provide "advice and encouragement" to ISIL and its supporters. Amin provided" instruction on how to use Bitcoin, a virtual currency, to mask the provision of funds to ISIL, as well as facilitation to ISIL supporters to travel to Syria to fight with ISIL," a Justice Department statement said.
Amin also facilitated the travel for Reza Niknejad, an 18 year old resident from the same area as himself to travel to Syria. Niknejad was also charged with conspiring to provide support to ISIL and conspiring to kill and injure people abroad. (end) ak.ajs
