Egyptian army kills senior leader of militant group

CAIRO, AUG 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian army announced Saturday that a senior leader of the militant group, Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis, has been killed during an exchange of gunfire with army soldiers in northern Sinai province.
In a statement to the press, Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said that the armed forces have killed Sameer Sulaiman Al-Haram, after besieging a house inhabited by the militant leader in the town of Sheikh Zuweid. Al Haram had initiated the gunfire before being shot and killed by the armed forces, who subsequently collected an array of weapons in his possession, Samir added. (end) asm.nam
