TEHRAN, July 29 (KUNA) -- Visiting French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Wednesday that the nuclear deal recently concluded between Iran and the world powers "is not merely a technical agreement," but it is for peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, Fabius said that Paris shares Tehran its keenness on necessity of realizing security and peace badly needed in the region.
The nuclear agreement is a "historical" deal hammered after 13 years of negotiations, he said, noting that they are hoping for implementation.
In the meantime, Fabius addressed the resumption of political, economic and security relations with Iran saying bilateral ties were very good in these fields in the past. However, they are not so at present. According to the French Foreign Minister, French companies would like to be present in Iran in the fields of auto industry, aviation, environment, health and agriculture.
He said that France appreciates bilateral relations in educational and cultural fields, adding that they welcome increase in number of Iranian students in France and promotion of bilateral cultural projects.
Resuming Tehran-Paris ties should spread to the region and to international relations, he said.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that he and his French counterpart, held proper discussions for fostering regional cooperation to tackle terrorism and extremism and agreed to expand bilateral relations.
Iran and France have decided to expand the political negotiations in future, Zarif said. The two countries could broaden cooperation in the fields of narcotics trafficking and the environment.
For Zarif, Fabius's visit to Tehran is likely to pave the way to remove misunderstandings between the two countries.
He pointed to the upcoming visit by a French economic delegation to Tehran in September, and reiterated that it would prepare the ground for more bilateral cooperation.
During his one-day visit, Fabius is due to meet with President Hassan Rouhani, Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh and head of the Department of Environment, Masoumeh Ebtekar. (end) mw.msa
