Drone strikes kill 13 rebels in E. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, July 5 (KUNA) -- At least thirteen insurgents were killed in United States-led drone strikes in Afghanistanآ’s eastern Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, said officials on Sunday.
Spokesman of the 201st Sailab Military Corps, Col. Nouman Hatfi in a statement claimed that thirteen rebels have been killed in missile strikes by unmanned aircraft in eastern provinces.
He further said that foreign forces conducted air strikes in Chappa Dara of Kunar province and Ghanikhel district of Nangarhar late last night.
"One insurgent was killed in Chappa Dara and twelve rebels were eliminated in Ghanikhel air assault," he added.
The Ghanikhel district chief, Hazrat Khan confirming the strikes said that Afghan security forces had launched ground operation amid US drone strikes that pounded militantsآ’ positions.
Earlier in July 1st, at least fourteen insurgents were killed in a US led drone strike in Nangarhar province.
The drone strike came at a time when Taliban rebels have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following the annual warm weather offensive against the foreign and local security forces. (end) sbk.hs
