Ten Egyptian Army troops killed or injured in militant attacks in Sinai

CAIRO, July 1 (KUNA) -- Ten troops of the Egyptian Army were killed or wounded in terrorist attacks on the regulars in North Sinai, the military said on Wednesday.
Brigadier Mohammad Samir, the army spokesman, said in a statement that some 70 terrorists attacked five military posts in the northern Sinai at the same time. The troops retaliated instantly, killing 22 of the attacking gunmen and destroying three vehicles equipped with 14.5 mm machine guns, he said, adding that 10 troops were wounded in the ensuing firefight.
"Our forces are chasing the terrorist elements and combing nearby regions while the clashes are raging on till now," he said.
Egypt has been witnessing incidents of such nature. Earlier this week, a bomb blast in Cairo claimed life of the general prosecutor. (end) aff.rk
