CAIRO, June 30 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry has said that stability in the Middle East and overcoming terrorism are "closely" related to finding a just solution to the Palestinian cause.
Shukry made the statement during a meeting with a delegation from the Quartet on the Middle East in Cairo on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel-Aty said in a press statement.
He added that Shukry had emphasized responsibility of the international community, represented by the Quartet, to work for a lasting, just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian cause based on the two-state solution, which is crucial to security and stability of the region.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister called for reactivating the Quartet role over the coming period, also to improve conditions on the ground in Gaza through lifting the Israeli siege on the Strip, and embarking on reconstruction work.
For their part, the Qaurtet members (US, Russia, European Union and the UN) said they are working on resuming Mideast peace talks since the "status quo is no choice," Abdel-Aty said. (end) rg.msa
