BRUSSELS, June 29 (KUNA) -- The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz Monday said the referendum in Greece on Sunday is actually a vote whether the country should stay in the eurozone or not, and he appealed to Greeks to vote yes.
"This decision affects us all. I will run and I will fight to convince Greek people to take that stretched hands of the Europeans and to stay in the Eurozone," he told journalists after a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Calude Juncker together with leaders of the political groups in the EP.
He warned that nobody has an answer to what will happen if the Greeks say no in the referendum.
Schulz said he said he is prepared to visit Athens to discuss the debt crisis with the Greek government and noted that he spoke to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras earlier today and urged him get back to the negotiation table in Brussels.
He said if Greece fails to repay the 1.6 billion euro to the IMF by tomorrow Tuesday night we have "a major problem as to what will happen then." (end) nk.gb
