KUWAIT, June 26 (KUNA) -- A number of officials involved in issues of citizens of special challenges have anew underscored the great need to support this segment of the society and overcome various hurdles standing in their way to prove themselves as effective members in the society.
The officials, during their participation in a Ramadan gathering, held by Kuwait disabled Sports Club late on Thursday, noted that aiding the handicapped has become a standard upon which advancement of nations is largely measured.
Madhi Al-Hajeri, chairman of the parliamentary handicapped issues' committee, affirmed that the National Assembly is very much concerned with the disabled issues because they are an important segment of the society. And the MPs often express keenness on securing all needed facilities for "this dear part of the society." The parliamentary commission diligently seeks to serve the handicapped at various levels, he said. It was behind recently introduced amendments to the handicapped law 8/2010.
He explained that the modifications, essentially, stipulated more facilities and services to the special cases, both the physically and mentally challenged.
Dr. Tareq Al-Shatti, General Director for the Public for the Disabled Affairs said the authority is keen on providing all possible facilities for these citizens to help them integrate in the society; be effective in serving their homeland.
Aiding people with disabilities is the measurement for assessing extent of nations' progress, he said.
Shafi Al-Hajeri, Chairman of the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club, lauded tangible role of the parliamentary commission in supporting the handicapped, urging for further meetings of such level to examine needs of these citizens and find solutions to their problems. (end) fsa.tb.rk
