DOHA, June 9 (KUNA) -- The current events engulfing the Arab and Gulf regions require maximum cooperation among all media to deal appropriately with these events, said a Kuwaiti minister on Tuesday.
Arriving here to join a GCC meeting for ministers of information, Kuwait's Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah told KUNA that joint Gulf media have shown great prowess and professionalism in their news coverage, evidenced by their coverage of Decisive Storm and Restoration of Hope operations.
That coverage has given the world a true picture of the crisis in Yemen and GCC's efforts at supporting the Yemeni people in restoring their legitimate government and enjoying the fruits of peace and stability, said the minister.
He noted that at this stage in the history of the region, it is incumbent on Gulf media to disseminate the values of tolerance, moderation and discarding hate, violence, and negation of "the other." Such approach to the media should be done collectively by all GCC states through their ministries of information, he said.
He emphasized that the media has to discredit and fight regressive thinking that espouses hate speech and animosity toward the "other." Saying he was delighted to head the Kuwaiti delegation to the ministerial meeting here, he noted that two forums, one on electronic media and another on the role of media in dealing with crises, would be of focal interest by the convening ministers.
