KUWAIT, June 9 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah on Tuesday affirmed significance of the 23rd meeting of the GCC information ministers' meeting saying it would signal start of joint action to face wrongful education that promote extremism.
In remarks to KUNA upon his departure to Qatar, Sheikh Salman, who doubles as the Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said the "meeting will constitute start of a joint GCC action regarding regional and international developments, namely (effects) of deviating and radical thoughts which have been affecting such developments, thus there is need for action to confront them with robust and enlightened media." He re-affirmed Kuwait's strong condemnation of recent terrorist attacks that took place in Saudi Arabia.
"There is an urgent need for joint media action, with both traditional and new means, to be up to the level of the challenges facing the GCC states at the external and internal levels," he said, noting such an approach was underscored at the 22nd meeting of the GCC information ministers last year.
He affirmed that he and fellow ministers would particularly examine robust and rapid effects of the modern social media on the youth "who need to be guided toward correct values and principles." (end) mdm.hb.rk
