Kuwait official commends ICRC role in providing humanitarian aid globally

BRUSSELS, May 26 (KUNA) - A Kuwaiti official Tuesday praised role of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in providing humanitarian aid around world, and noted that his country is providing humanitarian assistance not only in Arab world but around the globe.
Nasser Moharib Al-Haeen , Minister Plenipotentiary and deputy director of international organisations in Kuwait's foreign ministry, said Kuwait is not only providing humanitarian assistance to countries suffering from conflicts but also to countries hit by natural disasters.
Speaking at a conference of the ICIRC in support of donors in Brussels today, he noted that Kuwait provided USD three million in emergency aid to the quake stricken Nepal. Local relief organisations in Kuwait also collected donations to help the Nepalese people.
He praised the "significant" ICRC role in providing humanitarian aid globally and said Kuwait is proud to host its regional office since 1991 and donates USD three million to it every year.
He said today's meeting is taking place amid the continued suffering of the Syrian people since four years with over 12 million Syrians either displaced internally and refuges in neighbouring countries.
"The international committee is still watching with tied hands the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East, if not in the world," he said.
Al-Haeen said that Kuwait under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Saba has stood at the side of the Syrian people by hosting three international donors conference with a large international participation.
"Will there be another donors conference on Syria?" he asked and replied that this question remains without answer because of lack of any political signs to the end of the Syrian conflict soon.
He said "we now see another humanitarian disaster in Yemen due to the acts of a terrorist group that robbed the Yemeni people of their resources and their will.
Al-Haeen said that the Kuwait Red Crescent launched initiatives to collect donations to help the suffering people of Yemen. (end) nk.bs
