Sheikh Salman in Cairo to partake in 46th meeting of Arab info. ministers

CAIRO, May 20 (KUNA) -- Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah arrived here Wednesday to partake in the 46th meeting of the Arab information ministers, to be held at the Arab League HQs Thursday.
The Arab ministers meeting will tackle a number of important media issues, on the forefront of which the role of media in promoting tolerance and countering extremism. In statements to KUNA earlier today, Sheikh Salman said the ministers in their meeting will discuss the role the media can play in facing up to the dangers of propaganda spewed forth by terrorist organizations in the region.
The ministers will also review cooperation among Arab states' media organs to enhance the work of journalism in the region, he said.
Moreover, the ministers of information will consider allocating a special day to celebrate Arab media every year, he said, adding that they will also discuss electronic media and its effect on society, especially the role of the social media in disseminating information. (end) ms.bsr.ibi
