DOHA, May 13 (KUNA) -- The visiting Kuwaiti Minister of Oil and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Ali Al-Omair announced on Wednesday closure of the Al-Wafra oil field located in the neutral zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia was due to maintenance.
Minister Al-Omair added in remarks to KUNA that resuming the oil production in the field would be decided after two weeks of maintenance.
He stressed on Kuwait's keenness on continuing the exploration and drilling for oil, using the latest available technologies, to achieve Kuwait Petroleum Corporation's (KPC) strategy of reaching a total production of four million barrels per day.
Kuwait has always worked for further gas explorations, he said, alluding to new exploration that would eventually boost the output, noting that Kuwait currently buys large amounts of gas.
The suitable oil prices are those that satisfy all parties, including the exporting and importing countries, he affirmed.
Al-Omair stressed on Kuwait's commitment to cooperate with its partners in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in coordination with oil producing countries to fulfill stability in the oil markets and avoid undesired fluctuations in prices.
Kuwait always works to reach optimal exploitation of the oil wealth, seeks to rationalize consumption of its resources, continually develops oil facilities as oil production is the backbone the country's economy, he said.
Kuwait has set strategic plans to expand its oil production and refining capacity, to best serve the growing oil markets' demands, he said.
The country is also voluntarily contributing to the international efforts to decrease heat emission gases, the minister added.
Al-Omair participated yesterday in the fourth session of 15hth Doha Forum, titled "Economy and Energy", as he tackled a number of issues related to oil, gas, petrochemicals production, besides the relation between producers and importers.
This forum is organized annually -- including 18 workshops discussing economic and political matters. (end) nnd.mjz.lb
