Child care, rights base of overall development - official

KUWAIT, May 3 (KUNA) -- A senior official of the Ministry of Health has emphasized that caring for children and maintaining their rights is integral to the comprehensive development plan in Kuwait.
Assistant Undersecretary for Support Medical Services Dr. Jamal Al-Harbi also stressed that the ministry is working hard to provide children with necessary health care.
Addressing a forum on childhood organized by the Patients Helping Fund Society on Sunday, he reiterated the role by public benefit societies and the civil society, which is not less important, but complementary to that of the Ministry and other official institutions, offering cultural, intellectual, educational and awareness and refreshment care.
Al-Harbi said the Constitution underlines the state's responsibility to care for children and to guarantee their rights in safe life. In addition, Kuwait is a signatory of the international conventions and charters on children's rights.
According to the senior official, the government's plans for the coming years comprise various relevant projects and programs. He said that ministry plans to expand newborn care programs and child care centers.
The Forum is a humanitarian action aiming at fulfilling the theme "Safe childhood, promising future" and also to stress the fact that the future of the nation is closely related to caring for children, head of the preparatory committee for the event Hend Al-Zarban said. (end) shd.tb.msa
