Kuwait's Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad named for FIFA Executive Committee

MANAMA, April 30 (KUNA) -- President of Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah was named on Thursday a FIFA Executive Committee member in Asia for a two-year term.
Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al-Khalifa of Bahrain was also re-elected as chief of Asian Football Confederation for another four-year term. He will continue on the FIFA executive committee as the Asian president.
Both Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad and Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim were joined on the executive committee by Prince Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah of Malaysia and Kozo Tashima of Japan who will serve four years.
In a press statement, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, also chief of the Olympic Council of Asia, expressed his gratitude to the executive members for the confidence in selecting him, stressing that he will support football in Asia and in all areas across the globe.
He emphasized that football unites all world's peoples, saying this requires efforts, by him and his colleagues, to achieve equality among all peoples.
He noted that the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar will be the first ever tourney organized in the Asian Continent, adding it will inspire millions of fans from both Asia and the Middle East region. (end) mgh.hm
