UNSC urges resumption of Yemen's political process

NEW YORK, April 27 (KUNA) -- UN Security Council (UNSC) members have called for resumption of political process in Yemen in line with UN resolutions 2214 and 2216, which should be fully implemented, Jordanian Ambassador to UN Dina Kawar said Monday.
Speaking to the press in her capacity as UNSC's April president, Kawar said the political process should be resumed immediately in line with relevant UN resolutions and on basis of the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism, and outcome of the national dialogue.
UN resolution 2216 urges Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to intensify his good offices in order to enable resumption of peaceful and inclusive political talks and to help orderly in the political transition as set out in the Gulf Cooperation Council Initiative.
Kawar also expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, and urged facilitation of evacuation operations as well as the delivery of humanitarian assistance "as rapid and as safe as possible." The Saudi-led coalition announced stop of Operation Decisive Storm last Tuesday and commencement of Operation Renewal of Hope, which aimed at providing humanitarian assistance to the needy Yemeni people nationwide, evacuation of foreign nationals from the country and pushing for resumption of political process.
On Saturday, Ban announced the appointment of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad of Mauritania as his Special Envoy for Yemen to take over Jamal Benomar's work. (end) mao.bs
