Spain, India vow to bolster trade, investment ties

NEW DELHI, April 27 (KUNA) -- Visiting Spanish Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Minister Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo Y Marfil said here on Monday that his country is looking forward to further cooperation with India.
In his address to the first India-Spain Business Summit in New Delhi, Marfil, added that Madrid is willing to engage in vast segments of information and communication technology, infrastructure and water management.
"In all these fields, our companies can contribute, with their experience and technology, to developing Indian enterprises, so as to realize higher growth," the Minister, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday for a three-day official visit, was quoted as saying.
The event is organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry with the prime aim of boosting bilateral trade and investment ties, which are considered of a low level at present.
According to the Minister, the Spanish government is implementing strategies to get out of "a severe economic crisis." He urged Indian companies to invest in Spain.
"Foreign investment is growing. The Spanish economy, Europe's fourth largest economy, is based on solid foundation," Marfil added.
For his part, Director General of CII Chandrajit Bannerjee said that a high level delegation from the body would travel to Spain to explore investment opportunities.
Meanwhile, Marfil will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Minister of Urban Development M. Venakaiah Naidu, before wrapping up his visit on Tuesday. (end) atk.msa
