Al-Zayani reiterates GCC unity, effective diplomacy at Doha event

DOHA, April 26 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) achievements have demonstrated the bloc's integration and correlation, Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani said on Sunday.
The GCC stances have become unified toward regional and international issues and the Gulf diplomacy is active and effective, receiving merited world's appreciation, Al-Zayani told the a workshop that marked the beginning of the "GCC Days" that kicked off in Doha today.
He said that pan-GCC ties contribute to boosting bilateral ties with the leading world countries, groups as well as regional and international organizations.
According to Al-Zayani, the armed forces of the GCC member states are now "more integrated and effective" and the fields of the bloc's joint military action have been enhanced.
The GCC has developed into "a unified system and leadership, we are all proud of," he stressed.
Al-Zayani referred to exchange of information among the GCC members as well as coordination for combating organized crime and terrorism, which has led to the emergence of a Gulf policy apparatus.
As for economy, he said hard work has led to realizing GCC Citizenship, Common Market, Customs Union, Monetary Union and electricity connection.
On the Doha event, he said that the Gulf leaders have decided to hold "GCC Days", seeking to get their peoples acquainted with the achievements in all fields. Each member country will host the event in turn.
Al-Zayani thanked the GCC citizens, especially young people "who believed in the joint GCC action and its elevated and noble goals" and have always supported them.
The GCC Secretariat has been keen, through the organizing committee, to choose a host of events to "highlight the accomplishments realized through the blessed Gulf march." The GCC Days are pursuant to a resolution by the bloc's 35th Supreme Council.
The two-day annual event started today with the fifth youth workshop organized by the GCC Secretariat on education, training and innovation policies.
Addressing the workshop, Qatar's Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council Mohammed Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi, expressed gratitude to Al-Zayani and members of the organizing committee for their persistent efforts to "extend bridges of cooperation and enhance joint action among the GCC members" through the event.
The GCC Days include a host of political programs and seminars as well as military, security, cultural and youth activities.
A group of Kuwaiti young people are taking part in the GCC Days, from the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs and Public Authority for Youth and Sports, in addition to university and post -graduate students. (end) nnd.msa
