Ibtikar Al-Kuwait competition encourages girls to innovate - Min. Al-Sabeeh

KUWAIT, April 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh said Saturday Ibtikar Al-Kuwait competition encouraged girls to excel in scientific domain in a bid to boost their cultural and knowledge-related information.
Al-Sabeeh, also Minister of State for Planning and Development, said this competition helped explore talents of girls in order to sponsor their innovative ideas which would serve the community.
She was speaking in a speech, on behalf of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, patronage of the competition, during the final ceremony of Sheikha Fadya Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah's creativity and innovation competition.
Oman won the first place for a safe driving system, Bahrain won the second place for a project to transform paper to bricks while Kuwait followed for its wheelchair project.
Al-Sabeeh said the competition encouraged high school girls to do something useful during their free time, which could be used for community service.
The competition, she added, brought contributions from girls, whose eldest was 17 years old, from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, offering scientific projects.
Al-Sabeeh said Kuwait's development plan focused on the investment of human beings and their energies.
Sheikha Fadya said Ibtikar Al-Kuwait initiative was also offering training courses and advice for female students. She added the initiative was cooperating with UNESCO in the training of girls.
The initiative, said Sheikha Fadya, was also collaborating with the Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science (KFAS), whose director general Dr. Adnan Shahab Al-Deen expressed readiness to sponsor feasible inventions.
Sheikha Ayda Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award, commended the development of the competition since it was launched in 2000.
She said she felt the participants were enthusiastic and eager to offer their inventions. (end) zak.bs
