Egypt vital for Israel-Palestine dialogue resumption -- Ban

NEW YORK, April 25 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon stressed the importance of Egypt's role in working with and influencing the Israeli and Palestinian sides towards a resumption of meaningful dialogue.
Meeting the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Ban expressed his grave concern at the humanitarian suffering of the residents of Gaza and the slow pace of reconstruction there, his press office said Friday evening.
Both officials discussed issues of mutual concern in the Middle East and North Africa, including the situations in Libya, Syria and Yemen, and the fight against terrorism.
Shoukry is is New York to propagate Egyptian candidacy for UN Security Council 2016-2017, and attend review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) for the current year. (end) mao.gta
