Ban Ki-Moon, UN chiefs to hold talks in Paris next week -- Official

PARIS, April 24 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is expected in Paris Wednesday to meet with French President Francois Hollande and other officials as part of broad consultations between the UN and France next week.
Official sources said Ban will meet with and later attend a "working diner" Wednesday evening with the French leader and he will be hosted Thursday for a "working lunch" by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.
The talks will address many of the ongoing international crises and also UN-related issues.
"This is an important (visit) as it is the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the UN," Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said.
He indicated that Fabius would also be meeting next week with the head of the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNWRA, Peirre Krahenbuhl, and also with the UN Higher Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Gutteres.
The plight of the Palestinian refugees will be high on the agenda for these talks, as will the crisis in Syria and the subsequent refugee problem generated by that four-year conflict.
The issue of migration and the catastrophic problems facing boat people crossing the Mediterranean are also likely to be on the agenda at a time when Europe is mulling how to deal with the crisis.
The EU is certain to want a UN resolution to support any action they might take to resolve this problem. (end) jk.ibi
