CAIRO, April 23 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi vowed Thursday that Egypt would not condone any threat to the Arab security and would stand by Arab countries to derail "malicious" attempts to expand leverage on the Arab region.
"Egypt, in cooperation with its sisterly Arab countries, would not allow any foreign power to expand its influence or implement its schemes in the Arab region," Al-Sisi said in a televised speech to the nation on the occasion of the 33th anniversary of Sinai liberation day, which celebrates the final withdrawal of all Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982.
He underscored that Egypt ought not to isolate itself away from the developments in its region and its impacts of security and stability of the Arab and Middle East regions.
On the situation in Sinai, President Al-Sisi stated that the Egyptian security and armed forces are involved in a fierce battle with terrorist groups which terrorize people and threaten the stability there.
He thanked people in Sinai for their cooperation with the security and military forces, stressing that the state is determined to win the war on terrorism in Sinai.
Al-Sisi pointed out that the State has an ambitious plan to develop Sinai Peninsula through the establishment of two new cities, namely the New Ismalia and the New Rafah. (end) rg.ibi
