BRUSSELS, April 22 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative Federica Mogherini met in Brussles Wednesday with Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister for Foreign Affairs, to discuss bilateral ties after the US recently lifted the embargo on Cuba.
"Today we restarted formally our political dialogue even if we have been meeting quite often in these last months. The last meeting of the formal political dialogue took place in 2011 so I am proud to re-launch this process," Mogherini told reporters after the meeting.
"I am convinced that there are many areas in which the European Union and Cuba can have a fruitful cooperation in our mutual interest," said the EU foreign policy chief who visited Havana last month.
They discussed the follow-up of the Summit of the Americas, the regional development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and prepared the EU-CELAC (Community of Latin American and Caribbean states) summit that we will be held for the first time in Brussels in June.
They also discussed migration in the Mediterranean, as well as developments in Libya, the Middle East and in Ukraine.
On his part, Rodriquez Parrilla, told reporters that he expressed his gratitude and thanks for the EU position "regarding the economic and financial blockade that my country suffered.
"We also requested a renew support for the Cuban resolution that will be represented next fall in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly," he added. (end) nk.sd
