KUWAIT, April 21 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) will participate in the celebration of the Earth Day that falls on April 22 each year.
The Director of programs at the society Jinan Behzad told KUNA that many other governmental and non-governmental agencies and institutions take part in the 45th anniversary of the 'Earth Day'.
The society has sought to implement its strategies aiming to educate all people about how to preserve land as it is the only planet that groups all countries across the globe, she said.
The society's celebration includes workshops and awareness lectures on the kinds of coasts in Kuwait as well as security and safety on them, she noted.
During tomorrow's celebration, there will also be workshops on the living creatures in the islands and sea turtles, and lectures on the kinds of snails, Behzad made clear.
Kuwait, which has a distinguished coastal area, depends entirely on the sea as a natural resource of water and energy, she pointed out.
She warned of ignoring climate changes as life in Kuwait is affected by changes of the sea and any other changes, referring that the society had organized workshops on problems of climate changes.
These workshops, she noted, shed lights on the environmental risks resulted from these changes.
'Earth Day' began in the 1970s in the United States when rallies for environmental protection were taking place.
In 1990, the 'Earth Day' went global with more than 200 million people in 141 countries lifting environmental issues to the world stage. (end) zak.hm
