DOHA, April 20 (KUNA) -- The 11th meeting of Chiefs of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Red Crescent Societies kicked off here on Monday tackling humanitarian work in the region and boosting cooperation and coordination of relief efforts.
President of the Human Affairs and Environment at Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Adel bin Khalifa Al-Zayani, in his speech at opening of the preparatory meeting, stressed on the importance of coordination between GCC Red Crescent Societies and GCC Secretariat General, besides uniting positions towards the relief supplies, offered especially to Syria and Yemen.
The three-day meeting will tackle various issues related to the national societies in the GCC countries and their future plans and strategies and means of cooperation in the humanitarian field, as well as uniting their efforts with the regional and international organizations on that matter.
Qatar Red Crescent Society Secretary General Saleh Al-Mohannadi said in his opening speech that the society will exert all possible efforts to boost cooperation between GCC Red Crescent Societies, which are considered the most prominent at the international level.
"Our region is witnessing exceptional circumstances that require uniting humanitarian efforts and further integration between the GCC national humanitarian societies," he said.
Kuwait Red Crescent Society's Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi said the meeting will discuss the humanitarian situation of refuges and displaced people in neighboring countries, besides relieving people in need in Yemen.
The meeting will also address plans for improving the international work of the GCC Red Crescent Societies, besides activating the teaching of humanitarian work, as well as setting a time schedule for mutual field visits between GCC RCS, along with other vital issues. (end) nnd.lb
