ISIL releases 216 Yazidi captives in Nineveh

IRBIL, April 8 (KUNA) -- The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) released 216 Yazidi captives in Nineveh governorate, police in Kirkuk said Wednesday.
The 216 Yazidis, including women, children, and elders, were captured by ISIL at one of Nineveh's prisons, Brigadier Serhed Qader, chief of Kirkuk police, stated to KUNA, adding that the released arrived in Kirkuk via Meriam Beck district's port and were received by Peshmerga forces.
The Peshmerga forces secured transportation for the released Yazidis and provided them with medical aid and food, said the police chief, noting that ISIL brought the captured to Nineveh's outskirts and left them near a Peshmerga checkpoint.
Last year, ISIL killed, kidnapped, and raped over 1,000 Yazidi women after it took control of Sinjar district and large parts of Mosul. (end) sbr.ma
