KUWAIT, March 31 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon announced Tuesday that donors taking part in Kuwait III pledged a total of USD 3.8 billion to help the Syrian people suffering from murder, displacement and poverty since March 2011.

Ban, wrapping up the one-day conference, thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for hosting and patronizing the aid-pledging conference for the third time in three years.
He said he knew how difficult it was to host these conferences and "I am grateful" for His Highness the Amir leadership.
Ban thanked all participating countries and organizations for their commitment and contributions that brought about success for the conference.
Today the international community has united in solidarity with the Syrian people and pledging USD 3.8 billion, almost matching combined pledges made at the first and second donors' conferences. (pickup previous) bs
