Syrian people's plight suffer further deteriorationg - Al-Jasser

KUWAIT, March 30 (KUNA) -- Head of Kuwait's Relief Society Ahmad Al-Jasser Monday warned against further deterioration of the Syrian crisis, which has entered its fifth year, and affirmed that Kuwait relief societies spared no effort to helping the Syrian people.
Al-Jasser, also chairman of Al-Najat Charity Society, thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his humanitarian initiatives to help the Syrian people, wishing success for the meeting.
Al-Jasser, addressig a meeting of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), said the Kuwaiti charitable organizations have rushed to help the Syrian people since the crisis broke out in March 2011.
He said His Highness the Amir instructed the establishment of the supreme relief committee, which grouped charitable organizations, to organize the relief assistance.
"The committee executed many sheltering, health and educational projects in areas and refugee camps in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon ...," he said.
Al-Jasser said His Highness the Amir had held a meeting with Kuwaiti charity representatives a few days ago.
The meeting was to encourage these charities to do their best ahead of the meeting of NGOs which is also discussing the needs for the crisis in its fifth year.
"We sensed the urgency from His Highness the Amir on making the conference a success," he said.
He noted to the huge loss of life, arbitrary destruction of homes and deployment of chemical warfare. This has led to the huge outpour of refugees which has reached 12.2 million thus far.
Their situation is worsening year after year, he added.
The NGOs talks were attended by 100 international bodies and come a day ahread of talks on the government scale. (pickup previous) fk.sd
