14 people killed in clashes between Syrian regime, ISIL

AMMAN, March 17 (KUNA) -- At least 12 personnel of the Syrian regime forces as well as two civilians were killed on Tuesday in clashes between the regime and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Tadmur in Homs in central Syria.
Two civilians were killed and scores were injured when the regime's helicopters launched bomb-barrel strikes at a marketplace in Al-Waer area in western Homs, said a report by the opposition Syria Mubasher news network, adding injured people were admitted to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, ISIL militants seized two checkpoints under the regime's control in Al-Sukhna in eastern Tadmur in Homs and killed at least 12 personnel of the regime, said another report by the network.
Battles between the regime's forces and ISIL militants in western Der-Ezzor entered the third day in a bid by the regime to advance toward Shoula area, south of Der-Ezzor, amid violent clashes with ISIL militants. (end) tk.hm
