Kuwait supports UN human rights efforts

GENEVA, March 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait supports UN human rights efforts around the globe, said Kuwaiti permanent delegate to the UN and international organization headquarters in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim here Friday.
In a speech to the high lever segment of the 28th session of the Human Rights Council, Al-Ghunaim affirmed that Kuwait supports the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Ibn Al-Hussein, saying that his urges to not to lose grasp of the human rights principles was important.
He also commended the UN senior official on stance on conflict, disease, and security, noting that each problem such be dealt with through cooperation amongst world countries.
Regarding Kuwait's stance on issues connected with human rights, Al-Ghunaim said that Kuwait's annual report to the council back in January reflected its utter commitment to improve the status of human rights in the country.
The Kuwaiti diplomat also addressed Kuwait's involvement in the fight against Ebola, noting that the Kuwaiti leadership had donated USD five million to WHO to counter the disease.
On the issues of the Palestinian cause and the conflict in Syria, Al-Ghunaim called for just solutions to prevent the degrading of human rights in both Palestine and Syria.
A just solution must be fond to end the 60 years of injustice against the Palestinian people and the same goes to the Syrians who have been suffering from a conflict that is ongoing since 2011, said Al-Ghunaim, noting that Kuwait backed and will continued to up all efforts within such frame.
Al-Ghunaim took the chance to invite the international community to partake in the third donors' conference for Syria which will be held in Kuwait on March 31st. (end) ta.gta
