DEAD SEA, Jordan, March 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's humanitarian role was among key topics in regional consultations of humanitarian organizations in Jordan, ahead of the upcoming World Humanitarians Summit in Istanbul next May, Red Crescent Society's (KRSC) Deputy Chairman said.
In a statement to KUNA Tuesday, Anwar Al-Hasawi said that "keynote speakers at the meeting, which is being held in preparation for the World Humanitarians summit in Istanbul, praised the role of Kuwait as a center for humanitarian work and also praised the role of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a humanitarian leader." Al-Hasawi added that the meeting which is hosted by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), with the participation from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), including other experts and specialists, comes after several coordination meetings involving government and humanitarian organizations.
The goal, Al-Hasawi said, was to keep up with mechanisms needed to deal with disasters and their effect on humans, especially the current crisis sweeping more than one Arab country in the region.
The Deputy Chairman noted that KRCS has showcased during the meeting its humanitarian work as being part of the global Red Crescent Societies, which are expected to come out with recommendations ahead of the summit in Turkey.
For his part, KRCS Director of Public Relations Khaled Al-Zaid told KUNA that Kuwait is being represented in the meeting by President of International Islamic Charity Organization Amiri Advisor Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq.
Al-Zaid added that Kuwait humanitarian relief work was praised by participants and speakers at the meeting, who expressed appreciation for Kuwait efforts, particularly the Syrian refugees relief work, hailing as well Kuwait's hosting of upcoming third Syria donor conference.
Earlier, Al-Hasawi said in remarks to KUNA that this meeting would work to achieve further cooperation and exchange of expertise regarding the international strategies in the humanitarian field.
The three-day meeting will boost the humanitarian work regionally and internationally, he added. (pickup previous) hmf.mb
