KUWAIT, March 3 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) media strategy seeks to consolidate the Gulf, Arab and Muslim identities of the bloc's people, a senior official has said.
Citizenship is integral to the GCC system in many fields, work, education, health and the free move of people and capital, director of the media cooperation and publications at the GCC Secretariat Dr. Ahmed Al-Dhubaiban added on Tuesday.
Al-Dhubaiban made the statement at a session on "Media Strategy 2010-2020", part of the second seminar organized by the Kuwaiti Radio in cooperation with the GCC Secretariat on "official and private radios.. importance of competition and necessity of partnership." He noted that a key role of the media is to enhance GCC identity through focusing on "real Gulf citizenship" educating people on rights and duties, as well as pressing officials to carry out what is agreed upon by the bloc's leaders, clarifying them as gains for the citizens.
Al-Dhubaiban underlined that the GCC strategy is keen on making the private media a basic partner of the official media.
The two-day discussions that kicked off on Monday are sponsored by Information Minister and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah. (end) mdm.tb.msa
