GCC to hold cultural Olympiad concomitantly with Gulf Football Cup

DOHA, March 3 (KUNA) -- The 29th meeting of heads of the GCC Olympic Committees agreed to a Kuwaiti proposal to organize a GCC cultural Olympiad on the sideline of the Gulf Football Cup, a Kuwaiti Olympic Committee official said on Tuesday.
The cultural event will be implemented, during the next Gulf Football Cup to be hosted by Kuwait, said the official Obaid Al-Enizi in statements to KUNA.
He added that today's meeting of heads of the GCC Olympic Committees examined a report on developing joint GCC work in the field of sports and the initiative regarding that as posited by head of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Sheikh Dr. Talal Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Today's meeting also approved the establishment of an entity tasked with resolving sports disputes among GCC member states and further approved physical education classes for students of all ages to be incorporated in the daily curriculum of GCC students.
The meeting, moreover, examined with full consideration a proposal to have Saturday of the second week in February of every year as a Pan-GCC sports day, said Al-Enizi.
The meeting also reviewed Qatar's Olympic Committee's readiness to host the second GCC sports at the beach tournament and Oman's willingness to host the fourth GCC women's sports tournament.
The meeting, furthermore, agreed to have the UAE host the third GCC sports and the environment conference next November and approved the establishment of a GCC lab in Qatar to reveal the use of performance-enhancing drugs by athletes.
The next meeting of heads of the GCC Olympic Committees will take place in Saudi Arabia. (end) nnd.ajs
