CAIRO, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- An Egyptian court has sentenced four members of the Muslim Brotherhood to death and 14 others to life imprisonment for alleged murder and incitement for murder.
Cairo Criminal Court issued a ruling on Saturday upholding earlier death sentences against four members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
In December 2014, the court sentenced the four men to death and referred the sentences to the grand mufti for consideration. The mufti endorsed the court's December decision.
The court also issued life sentences against leading figures of the Brotherhood Group, including Supreme Guide Mohammad Badie and his deputy Khairat Al-Shater to death.
Former People's Assembly Speaker Saad Al-Katatni, former Supreme Guide of the Brotherhood Mahdi Akef, former Minister of Youth Osama Yassin and ex-MPs Mohammad Al-Beltagy and Essam Al-Erian were also among those sentenced to life in prison.
The defendants were mainly accused of murder, inciting murder, attempted murder, possession of firearms in connection with a case pertinent to clashes between Brotherhood members and protesters.
The clashes took place near the Brotherhood's headquarters in Cairo on June 30, 2013, four days before the ouster of President Mohamed Morsi. (end)
