Arab League condemns Israeli attacks on holy sites

CAIRO, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- The Arab League has blasted recent Israeli attacks on Muslim and Christian holy sites in occupied Palestinian territories.
Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League for Palestine Affairs Ambassador Mohammad Subeeh said in a statement here on Friday only over the last 24 hours, a Christian seminary in Jerusalem and a mosque near Bethlehem came under attack.
Such attacks, which usually take place ahead of Israeli elections, reflect hatred against, and non-acceptance of others, Al-Subeeh lamented.
Suspected Israeli nationalists set fire to a Christian seminary in Jerusalem and vandalized an elementary school in Nablus earlier on Thursday. The attacks came just one day after a similar group burned a mosque near Bethlehem.
The Arab League's official called on the international community, mainly the UN, to live up to due responsibility by taking action against such attacks and protecting all Palestinian holy sites.
Meanwhile, Egypt openly condemned the recent arson attacks on the Bethlehem mosque and the Christian seminary in Jerusalem.
Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Bader Abdelatti said in a press statement that the international community should move immediately to provide necessary protection for religious sanctuaries in the occupied Palestinian territories. (end) mfm.aff.mt
