KUWAIT, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Kuwait National Commission for the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Kuwait-UNESCO) Abdullatif Al-Baijan said that late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber had left indelible marks on the human renaissance.
Al-Baijan made this remark on Thursday in an inaugural speech on behalf of Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Bader Al-Issa during a ceremony organized by the commission's general secretariat on the occasion of the UNESCO naming the late Sheikh Abdullah as a prominent figure in the field of culture and education for 2014/15.
Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and a number of foreign ambassadors to Kuwait as well as media people attended the ceremony that was held at the theater of Kuwait National Museum.
Al-Baijan said this honor is a source of pride to achievements of the late Sheikh Abdullah as he was a first pioneer in culture and education not only in Kuwait but also in the whole region.
He said the late Sheikh Abdullah's efforts have made inroads in the development of the educational and cultural systems in the country.
The achievements also led to set up model schools for boys and girls and hire foreign teachers to upgrade educational process inside Kuwait, he added.
The late Sheikh Abdullah had chaired the first literary club in Kuwait in 1924 and established several cultural and educational institutions. He was also the first minister of education between 1936-1965. (end) asa.tb.hm
