US, coalition airstrikes continue against ISIL militants in Iraq, Syria

WASHINGTON, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- US and coalition military forces have continued to attack Islamic State (ISIL) militants across Iraq and Syria, it was reported on Sunday.
The latest strikes took place between early Saturday and early Sunday, with assessments of the results based on initial reports, according to Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials.
In Syria's Ain Al-Arab, or Kobane, coalition aircraft conducted seven airstrikes against an ISIL staging area and four ISIL tactical units, as well as destroying five fighting positions belonging to the militant group.
The airstrikes also struck an ISIL tactical unit in Al-Raqqah, noted the officials.
Furthermore, airstrikes across Iraq struck 14 tactical units, a staging area, nine staging positions, a fighting position, four large units, eight vehicles, two armored vehicles, three buildings, a shipping container, a modular structure and a tank all belonging to the movement.
The strikes targetted areas near Al-Asad, Al-Qaim, Hit, Kirkuk, Mahkmur, Sinjar and Tal Afar.
They were conducted as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, which aims to eliminate the militant group. (end) yt.sd
