Kuwaiti-Senegalese cmte meeting to boost ties

KUWAIT, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- The upcoming second meeting for the Kuwaiti-Senegalese higher committee in Dakar will focus on boosting four decades of exquisite bilateral relations.
The meeting, to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, will reflect on issues pertaining to development of relations within all domains.
This is the second meeting for the committee which held its first talks in 2013 in Kuwait which was also chaired by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.
The relations between the two countries date back four decades ago when Senegal opened its embassy in Kuwait in 1971. In 1981, Kuwait opened its embassy in the Senegalese capital Dakar.
The Kuwaiti and Senegalese leaderships have had a unique relation that dates back to the rule of late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
The strength of relations was evident in the historical visit made by Senegalese President Macky Sall who visited Kuwait in 2012 right after winning the elections, where he had met with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to explore more ventures that would solidify relations between the two countries.
Further back, the Senegalese had played an important role in the liberation of Kuwait and sent troops to participate in the operation to free Kuwait in 1991.
Senegal is the second non-Arab nation that highly benefited from the grants and donations offered by Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED).
The fund had provided in 2014 loans to assist in the restoration of a main highway in Senegal, bringing the tally of grants and loans to Senegal to KD 110.320 million. (end) eh.gta
