KUWAIT, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Deputy Chairman of the National Guard Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah expressed his deepest sorrow and sadness over the demise of Saudi king Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away on Friday.
In a statement to KUNA on Saturday, he described the late Saudi king as a great leader who devoted his life to serve causes of both Arab and Muslim nations.
Sheikh Meshal added that the history would record late king Abdullah's bold stances and wise policy toward his country and religion.
King Abdullah was one of the outstanding leaders in the world, who sought to promote security, peace and stability on the international level and offered great services for the humanity.
The history will forever remember late king Abdullah's several initiatives aimed at achieving peace across the globe, he said, referring to the Arab Peace Initiative for solving the Palestinian issue and his efforts to put an end to the conflicts in Iraq, Yemen, Syria and other countries.
Late king Abdullah was a sincere leader whose policies and decisions helped resolve many of the world's disputes, Sheikh Meshal said, noting the Kuwaiti people will remember his bold stances during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990.
During the occupation, Saudi Arabia's leadership and people supported Kuwait and helped form an unprecedented international alliance to help it expel the Iraqi forces and liberate the country, he said.
Sheikh Meshal expressed his deepest condolences to the royal family, Saudi people and both Arab and Muslim nations for the death of king Abdullah, wishing success for King Salman and his Crown Prince Muqrin to complete the march of development.
He voiced his confidence that Saudi Arabia under the leadership of King Salman would continue its leading role on the regional and international levels. (end) fa.tb.hm
