By Ayyob Khaddaj BEQAA, Lebanon, Jan 23 (KUNA) -- In collaboration with Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) a delegation from the Kuwait initiative in aid of the Syrian people distributed assistance among 650 syrian refugee families in Zahla city, east Lebanon, on Friday.
The initiative aims to mobilize philanthropic action to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian refugees in the eastern Beqaa Valley, head of the delegation Feryal Al-Furaih told KUNA.
"Thanks to the contributions of benevolent people in Kuwait, the campaign was able within 10 days to raise the necessary funds for providing the refugees with foodstuffs, blankets, heaters and other household items," she pointed out.
On her part, Fotooh Al-Dalali, member of the delegation, said the Kuwaiti relief effort for needy people is distinct from that of other donors in its promptness.
She thanked KRCS for providing logistic support to the delegation and relentless efforts to help the Syrian refugees.
In a another statement to KUNA, head of KRCS mission in Lebanon Dr. Musaed Al-Enezi said KISR is networking with Kuwaiti fund-raising agencies to provide a sustainable lifeline for the Syrian refugees across Lebanon.
"The suffering of the refugees in Lebanon has coupled with the recent severe cold which requires the aid agencies to double their life-saving effort," he stressed, noting that tune of Kuwaiti assistance to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon this year amounted to USD 30 million.
A number of refugees expressed gratitude to Kuwaiti leaders and people for their firm support since the start of the Syrian crisis.
Yesterday a Kuwaiti military plane, carrying the delegation and 30 tons of humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees, arrived at Beirut international airport. (end) ayb.gb
