French FM to urge political solution to ISIL at London conf.

PARIS, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius leaves for London for a major international conference on the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) where he will stress the need for a political solution to defeat the insurgent group.
This is the second conference on how to combat ISIL and restore stability to the eastern parts of Syria and northern Iraq. The first one of a 60-member anti-ISIL coalition was held in Paris 15 September.
The London meeting will review ongoing action and "allow for the pursuit of a coordination of strategy," Fabius said.
The French Foreign Minister "will recall on this occasion that only the implementation of lasting political solutions will allow us to weaken and push back Daesh (ISIL)," Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal said in a briefing on Wedensday.
He added that the coalition was working in several areas to counter ISIL, militarily, by supporting the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga and the moderate Syrian opposition.
There is also a major effort underway to prevent foreign fighters leaving for the combat zone, in addition to a sustained effort to curb financing for ISIL.
The coalition members are also working to stop ISIL use of propaganda tools for its movement via the Internet and through other means, besides implementing a humanitarian aid program for areas affected by the extremist push. (end) jk.msa
