KUWAIT, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait hosted and supported the Palestinian revolution since its inception on January 1 1965, and continues to do so at present, Director of the Foreign Ministry's Arab World Department said Tuesday.
"The Palestinian revolution was launched by its historic leaders and main body (Palestine Liberation Organization) kilometers away from where we are standing now, and Kuwait continued its support and has always been backing the decisions of the Palestinian brothers and their political system," Ambassador Abdulhameed Al-Failakawi told reporters during a reception held by the Palestinian Embassy to mark the 50th anniversary of the revolution.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah's September 14, 2014 visit to Ramallah and performing prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque was a new leap in Kuwait-Palestine relations, he said.
Visits like the one paid by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, said Al-Failakawi, would support steadfastness of Palestinians.
He said the Arab foreign ministers had, during a January 15 meeting in Cairo, formed a committee chaired by Kuwait.
This committee, he explained, would contact countries and international organizations to rally support for a new Arab draft resolution to the UN Security Council, which would end the Israeli occupation and establish the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Palestinian Ambassador to Kuwait Rami Tahbob commended Kuwait's major role in the launch of the Palestinian revolution.
"Kuwait was the spark of this great revolution, with a strong faith of this country and (ruling) Al-Sabah family in the right of the Palestinian people to liberate their country, return and build their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital," he said.
The revolution, he added in remarks to reporters, reflected the belief that the Palestinian people are responsible for liberating their lands.
Kuwait "was the only Arab country that allowed and even supported the Palestinian national action on Kuwait soil ... and funding the revolution ... ," said Tahbob. (end) hrz.bs
