29 more airstrikes hit ISIL targets in Syria, Iraq

WASHINGTON, January 17 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition continued to strike ISIL targets in Syria and Iraq, with a total of 29 airstrikes between 8 a.m. on January 16, and 8 a.m. on January 17, local time, the Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a statement released Saturday. In Syria, attack bomber, fighter, and drone aircraft carried out 13 airstrikes near three areas: Kobani, where "11 airstrikes struck an ISIL tank, three ISIL fighting positions, and four ISIL tactical units, and destroyed an ISIL tank and eight ISIL fighting positions," Abu Kamal, where "an airstrike struck an ISIL vehicle and destroyed an ISIL checkpoint," and Dawr az Zawr, where "an airstrike struck an ISIL tactical unit," the statement affirmed.
In Iraq, 16 airstrikes were carried out using attack, fighter, and drone aircraft near six areas: Hit, where "two airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and destroyed two ISIL vehicles, Al Qaim, where "two airstrikes struck an ISIL checkpoint and destroyed an ISIL excavator," Bayji, where "two airstrikes struck a large ISIL unit and an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed five ISIL buildings," Taji, where "five airstrikes struck five ISIL tactical units and destroyed three ISIL buildings," Al Asad, where "an airstrike destroyed an ISIL vehicle," Sinjar, where "two airstrikes struck two ISIL tactical units and an ISIL fighting position and destroyed two ISIL buildings," and finally near Mosul, where "two airstrikes struck an ISIL tactical unit and an ISIL fighting position and destroyed two ISIL fighting positions," CJTF-OIR said.
