Turkey, Qatar mull closer ties

ISTANBUL, Dec 19 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed in Ankara on Friday Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The two sides held talks on means of bolstering bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional issues, Turkey's news agency reported.
Both leaders are expected to sign setting up a supreme strategic cooperation council under the co-chairmanship of the Amir and the Turkish President to discuss means of promoting relations between the two countries and to follow up issues in various fields, it said.
Sheikh Tamim arrived in Turkey Thursday evening and was received by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
The Amir's visit comes at a time when Turkish-Qatari foreign relations witness much progress, particularly regarding issues of Syria, Iraq and Palestine as well as combating terrorism. (end) ta.hm
