KUWAIT, Dec 16 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is scheduled to witness on Friday and Saturday the second "Kuwait mile" auto and motocross rally with participation of national champions and their peers from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
The rally, forecast to attract a large number of auto and motorcycle racers and enthusiasts of speed and sensational competition on a road free of cameras and traffic radars, will be held on Subhan road, said Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Jarrah, the head of circuits and speed committee at Basel Al-Sabah Racing Club, in an exclusive statement to KUNA on Monday.
Thursday is the last time for registration for participation in the rally, the second to be organized by the club since last March.
A large number of racers have already heated up their motors in recent training rounds on the same road in preparation for the major sports event.
Sheikh Mohammad Al-Jarrah indicated that this rally had originated in Texas, the US, known as "the Texas mile," of a long road, however the championship here will be held on a 600-m-long track.
He urged people to seek to watch the race, for their will be thrilling shows involving sport cars and four-wheel vehicles. More than 200 drivers are forecast to be involved in the rally.
The vehicles, including those of 8C power, will take part in the stock and four wheelers' competitions.
Motor sports in Kuwait is believed to have begun in Kuwait in 1986, initiated by local race enthusiasts but it was not until 1997 that the first organized motorsports club, Kuwait Motorsports Club, officially came into existence. The late Sheikh Basil Al Sabah is remembered by the enthusiasts as "the pioneering figure and hero in motorsport in Kuwait." (end) ayr.hb.rk
