ISIL militants attack Syrian forces near Deir Ezzor airport

AMMAN, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Several people have been killed or wounded in a new suicide attack by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) near Deir Ezzor military airport in east Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Friday.
An ISIL suicide bomber drove a tank close to the airport and then blew it up.
The bombing was followed by armed clashes between Syrian regular forces and ISIL gunmen in the nearby Hweja Saker district on the outskirts of Deir Ezzor, causing significant casualties in both sides, said SOHR.
Meanwhile, regime's warplanes bombarded the suspected ISIL locations near the airport, killing nine ISIL fighters and wounding several others.
ISIL fighters are currently advancing towards the Deir Ezzor airport area amid continued violent clashes with the regime's army and national defense forces, SOHR added. (end) tk.bsr.ma
